Social Network & Community Building Assignment

Instructor: Jerry H. Yamashita, M.Ed.
Content Area/Level:
  • Professional Development
  • Staff
Lesson Title: Establish Your Digital Presence
Objectives:
  • Introduce new EdTech tools with a focus on social networking and community building.
  • Introduce concept of app smashing.
  • Understand relationships between multiple types of digital media to create a singular experience.
Introduction: "Appsmash is the trendy term embodying the idea that apps can collide with one another to help create brilliant new products. The way an appsmash works is simple: work begins in one app, then is pushed to a second, a third, or more for further modification and enhancement (Catapano, 2020)."
Using Padlet to collaborate, Twitter to share ideas and join PLNs, and a professional blog to create in-depth content, participants will be able to experience first-hand how an appsmash lesson looks and feels. Ideas from this workshop can be quickly adapted to suit any subject area or grade level while quickly establishing a professional online presence at the same time.

Padlet: This is an example of a simple assignment created for a professional development workshop. Following this model, you will create your own Padlet to plan an activity for your subject area.

Made with Padlet

Twitter: Next, you will create a professional Twitter account for all things education-related. This account will allow you to connect with staff, students, and fellow educators from around the world both individually and through Professional Learning Networks. Upon creating your account, send your first tweet and use the hashtag #AdultEdTechPLN so that we create our own thread.

Greetings, fellow #AdultEDU #EdTech folks! As part of an assignment, I am creating the #AdultEdTechPLN hashtag. I wonder how many of us are out there. Let's connect! □ pic.twitter.com/rvAGGOJOkt
